Workshop on the Politics and Ethics of Global Solidarity
On 1-2 June, project Postdoctoral Researcher Alice Baroni took part in the “ECO-Syria Workshop: The Politics and Ethics of Global Solidarity in Times of Crisis,” hosted by the beautiful Center for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) at the University of Lund. The workshop gathered scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds to discuss the challenges and possibilities of research on – and in solidarity with – movements for social and political justice, addressing both theoretical gaps and methodological questions of positionality, power and accountability. The workshop concluded with the establishment of an agenda for a collaborative research on solidarity aimed at connecting different cases across the globe, situating site-specific struggles within global power structures, and developing a comprehensive understanding of both the potential and limitations of solidarity.
