Virtual Sea Trial: First Kick-off Seminar | Workshop | Hackathon
Overview:
The Virtual Sea Trial (VST)‘s first kick-off seminar and workshop were held on 19th-20th March at Joki Center, Turku, and the hackathon on 22nd March at Aboa Mare, Auriga Business Center, Turku. Group photo credit: Markus Krusberg, UTU.
VST is a 6-million-euro public research project. The overarching objective is to develop concepts of unified, distributed test environments for virtual sea trials and commissioning for the whole shipbuilding ecosystem. Establishing a shared test environment between the shipyard, vendors, and research organizations makes it possible to ensure that system-level testing can be performed early in the shipbuilding process.
The University of Turku (UTU) participates in the project through two departments from the Faculty of Technology:
- The Department of Computing (Comp) provides expertise in human-machine interfaces and information systems development. Furthermore, it strengthens the consortium with its knowledge of IT services development and relevant practices.
- The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering (MeMa), supported by the new degree program in automation, has excellence in model-based design and testing of automation systems for industrial processes, as well as simulation of these. Given below are the work packages of the automation unit of MeMa:
- Virtual commissioning monitoring system
- AI-enhanced information retrieval from blueprints
- System architectures
- Component specifications
- Modelling
- Model-based design and testing
- Verification and validation
- Co-simulation testing
- Automatic tuning
- Model life cycle
