Carbon Neutral Horizon (hiilineutraali horisontti) Event

At the carbon neutral horizon (hiilineutraali horisontti) event, University Lecturer Jari Böling shared the work packages of the Virtual Sea Trial project (funded by Business Finland) in which the automation unit of the mechanical engineering department is taking part. The work packages include the following:

  • Future sea trials will consist of both virtual and physical elements.
  • Virtual commissioning will start as early as possible in the ship-building project, years earlier than current sea trials start.
  • Left-shift testing lowers the risk of implementing new technologies and saves time and manpower from trials.
  • The development of a unified, distributed, multivendor test environment for the whole shipbuilding ecosystem brings transparency to the commissioning process.

During the day, we heard about Meyer Turku Shipyard’s and Wärtsilä’s maritime industry operations and cooperation opportunities for SMEs, and it was possible to meet the aforementioned representatives and others involved in the implementation of the event in pre-arranged meetings.
