Monthly seminar: Religious and Cultural Situation in Post Soviet Georgia.

Eka Tchkoidze’s lecture concentrates on the religious and cultural situation in post Soviet Georgia. In modern Georgia, religion and religious practice became a very effective tool for establishment of new ethnic identities after the fall of the Soviet Union (1991). Thus, since the 1990s and especially in the 2000s, the Georgian Orthodox Church became a very influential and rich institution even from political point of view.

Christianity and Politics Conference

Christianity and Politics is a two-day inter-disciplinary conference to be organised at the University of Turku, Finland, in November 2018. The conference zooms in on Christianity with a critical focus on the examination of the relationship between Christianity and politics in the West. Under scrutiny will be the manifold ways in which Christianity and politics have been and are intertwined and exist in relation to one another, both in the past and in the contemporary world.
