Maija Setälä invited to become a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters
Professor Maija Setälä has been invited to become a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters. This spring, the Academy elected a total of 36 new members.
Setälä is Professor of Political Science at the University of Turku. Her research focuses on democratic theory, democratic innovations, deliberative democracy, and political trust. Her recent work examines how artificial intelligence can support democratic deliberation and decision-making and what are the risks related to the use of AI in democratic processes. .
Founded in 1908, the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters is a multidisciplinary learned society that promotes scientific research and brings together distinguished scholars who have distinguished themselves in their fields. The number of members is limited to a maximum of 333 members under the age of 65 at any given time, and membership is lifelong.
In addition to Setälä, the Academy invited three other members from the University of Turku: Mikko Niemelä, Professor of Sociology and Research Professor at Kela, Anu Koivunen, Professor of Gender Studies, and Antti Saraste, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine.
