Erasmus+ ACCESS
This is the website of the Advanced Climate Change Education for Sustainable Futures and Systems Change (ACCESS) Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education project. The project is a collaborative effort implemented by a consortium between two Nepalese universities and two universities from the European Union.
Abstract
Climate change is undeniably one the most critical challenges that the humankind is facing in the 21st century. Climate resilience and low carbon development, aiming at ensuring sustainable development and keeping emissions at minimum, is a necessary development approach for the future of humankind and our biosphere. As the pace of social, technological and political changes is constantly accelerating, it is increasingly important for people to be able to learn from the past and gain individual navigation skills that are needed to keep up with the pace of the surrounding world.
Quality education can be one of the most effective and necessary ways to increase these navigational skills and resilience to climate change in societies. Although the need to raise awareness and develop expertise to meet the challenge of climate change is global, actions and responses must be local. One of the core goals of Advanced Climate Change Education for Sustainable futures and Systems change (ACCESS) is to enhance Higher Education Institutions’ (staff and students alike) capacities in climate change and sustainability education to enable systems change and futures literacy in preparation of the climate and sustainability challenges in Nepal. The project directly contributes to Green deal, digital transformation and making education accessible and equal with inclusion and diversity.
Goals of the project are to
- Enhance administrative capacities of Nepal HEIs in international project management and financing, quality assurance, planning,monitoring and evaluation.
- Ensure high quality and relevant climate change and sustainability education through enhanced staff capacities and design and implementation of blended and digital courses in Nepal HEIs.
- Increase the accessibility of the students/staff with fewer opportunities through open access to digital climate change university for everyone in Nepal.

The project is coordinated by the Sustainable Development Futures research group at Finland Futures Research Centre. The consortium consists of Kathmandu University, Purwanchal University, Wageningen University and University of Turku.
