Finland-Singapore Maritime Innovation Camp 2022

A rare bi-lateral opportunity in maritime co-creation awaits you in Turku, Finland from 12 to 16 December 2022!

The Finland-Singapore Maritime Innovation Camp is a collaboration between the University of Turku (UTU) and Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI). Held in Finland for the first time, innovative students from world class universities can come together to participate in a facilitated problem-solving process based on Google Design Sprint and develop novel solutions to address a real-life challenge by our maritime corporate partners.

In our 3rd edition of the Innovation Camp, we will be exploring pilotage with our maritime corporate partners, Finnpilot and PSA Marine. We will be exploring the current pilotage and port operation processes and problems, with a view of transiting towards remote pilotage, smart ports and autonomous shipping. During the camp, students will interact and explore ideas in international and multidisciplinary  teams to address a challenge statement set by our corporate partners. The corporate partners and other experts will provide supporting information and hold dialogues with participating students on different real-life processes and related challenges and opportunities. Guided by various academic and maritime professionals during the camp, the teams will go through a facilitated process comprising of task analysis, solution sketching, Q&A sessions and feedback rounds.

To help the students in their problem solving, we have planned visits to maritime education facilities and maritime museum in Turku in our programme. The students will also have an opportunity to board a Turku – Stockholm cruise ferry, to gain first-hand experience on onboard port call processes, roles and collaboration between different maritime professionals.
