PIM kinases shown to regulate LKB1 and AMPK activities
Our article on the cross-talk between PIM, LKB1 and AMPK kinases has now been published in Cell Communication and Signaling. There we show that PIM kinases inhibit AMPK activation via phosphorylation of LKB1. Interestingly, growth of xenografted tumours lacking the tumor suppressor LKB1 is abrogated by knocking out the oncogenic PIM kinases, suggesting that PIM-selective inhibitors might provide a rational therapeutic option to treat LKB1-deficient tumours.
