The British Association for Applied Linguistics (BAAL) held its annual conference on September 4-6, 2025, at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. The theme was Applied linguistics in the face of global challenges and local needs, and in line with this theme, there were many presentations on social justice and the linguistic rights of minorities, as well as on artificial intelligence and its impact on teaching in particular. In addition, there were many other presentations related to language learning, teaching, and use.

KISUVI was represented by Katja Mäntylä and Outi Toropainen with their presentation Agency in on-line writing: comparing writers’ process in their L1 and L1 English. In their presentation, Outi and Katja focused particularly on pauses and the corrections made after them. The presentation was well attended, and the audience eagerly asked questions and made comments.
