Participate in EC2U Intercultural Simulation Game
The University of Turku is a member of the European Campus of City-Universities, the EC2U Alliance. Now EC2U offers students the opportunity to experience virtual collaboration and improve their individual intercultural competence in the Intercultural Simulation Game “Megacities”.
Megacities: The scenario
A wealthy elderly citizen wishes to donate his property, a piece of fallow land of about 100 km2 in the middle of three adjacent towns. His condition: the three towns with different interests will have to use the area together in order to create one or more joint projects. Each of the participating teams works as a consultant for one of the three cities and has the task, together with the political representatives of the city, to draw up a plan for the appropriate development of the area. This area thus becomes a “field of cultural actors” of the three adjacent cities. It is therefore a question of developing a suitable overall concept for the fallow land which is compatible with the needs of the neighboring towns and of sustainable interest to the region.
Schedule
You will play in groups of three universities (Turku, Jena and Salamanca) in online meetings of 3 hours, once a week for six weeks, from 24th of February until the 31rd of March on Fridays at 12:00-15:00 (Finnish time)
The game requires collaborative teamwork as well as readiness to deal constructively with complex intercultural and unfamiliar situations. Local mentors of each university will also participate in the meetings and will guide you through the game.
Certificate
After taking part in the simulation game, you will receive a certificate that certifies your participation. The game is eligible as “Intercultural activity” for your EC2U Career Plan Certificate.
