Low abundance of floating marine debris in the Northern Baltic Sea
A recent study determined the amount of litter (floating marine debris, FMD) in the Northern Baltic Sea. The results show that the amount of litter in the sea is relatively low. Plastic bags were the most common identifiable litter items, and researcher also found other consumer items such as plastic bottles and cups. The highest concentrations of litter were found near major port cities.
