Multidisciplinary AI Studies
University of Turku’s AI Academy provides multidisciplinary studies related to artificial intelligence. The University of Turku is a multidisciplinary research university, and the AI Academy brings together AI teachers and studies from all faculties and provides a platform for collaboration across disciplines in the field of AI education. The AI Academy collaborates with the University of Turku’s Sote-akatemia.
Since 2019
The AI Academy was established in the spring of 2019 to support the University of Turku’s multidisciplinary profile. In its early years, the development of AI Academy and its study module was funded, among other sources, through a special government grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture. The AI Academy is guided by a steering group consisting of the Deans of all faculties at the University of Turku. The steering group that the AI Academy shares with Sote-akatemia meets approximately twice during the academic year.
Multidisciplinary Study Module in Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is transforming the content of work and radically changing the skills required across all sectors. To help address the growing demand for AI expertise, the AI Academy offers University of Turku students a multidisciplinary study module in artificial intelligence, which students can complete as a minor subject (25 ECTS).
The study module focuses primarily on understanding the fundamental principles and applications of artificial intelligence, as well as the economic, legal and ethical aspects related to the use of AI. The Multidisciplinary Study Module in Artificial Intelligence is also available as Open University education
Our current study selection is almost exclusively in Finnish. In English, we offer MOOC on AI and Cybersecurity. The course Computational thinking and 21st century skills in teaching and learning, 3 ECTS, is available both in Finnish and English.
Continuous Learning and Collaboration across Disciplinaries
Multidisciplinary collaboration and continuous learning have been at the heart of the AI Academy’s activities since its establishment. We offer our courses as Open University education and as part of collaboration among higher education institutions in the Turku region in the field of AI education.
