Veikka Savila

Veikka earned their Master’s degree in Biosciences, specializing in Molecular Systems Biology, from the University of Turku. They also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, with a thesis exploring Neuroepigenetics: Regulation of Gene Expression During Memory Formation. Their Master’s thesis, completed at the Bucci Brain Imaging Lab, focused on Recognizing Early Signs of Dementia Utilizing [18F]FDG-PET Brain Imaging Data and Machine Learning. Following this, Veikka continues at the lab as a doctoral researcher. Their thesis will study, how the addition of blood based biomarkers (GFAP, IL-6, TNF-α, Aβ, tau), genetic risk factors (APOE ε4), and registry data (age, gender, socioeconomic status) to FDG-PET scan data affect the precision of predicting Alzheimer’s disease, and which factors have the strongest effect.
