The Incredible Years in Finland

The Incredible Years is a group-based programme which has been used in Finland for 10 years. The purpose of the programme is to support children with behavioural symptoms and disorders, their families, and the social care, health care and education professionals who work with the children and families. The Incredible Years programme has been developed and studied all over the world for more than 30 years, and it has been proved to be a very efficient and impactful intervention.

The national home base of the Incredible Years programme is located at the Research Centre for Child Psychiatry at the University of Turku. Their work also includes a study focused on the implementation of the programme. The purpose of the study is to produce information and tools based on strong research evidence which can be used when developing the service systems.

The programme includes preventative programmes and treatment programmes aimed at parents, group management methods aimed at early childhood educators and primary school teachers, and separate programmes for children.
