Why donate to the Botanic Garden?

The Botanic Garden of the University of Turku in Ruissalo is a living and open window into biodiversity and our research.

We maintain a collection of over 5,000 plant species in greenhouses and outdoor gardens, including species from all corners of the globe. We share current research information on the importance of biodiversity and conservation, monitor the success of plant species, and promote Finland’s garden culture. We are one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turku and contribute to more sustainable tourism.

By donating to the Botanic Garden, you support our diverse work to uphold biodiversity.

Our living collection is our pride

Plants are the basis of life on Earth. Human health and thriving nature are inextricably linked, and the accelerating environmental crisis means that we need to take urgent action to protect and restore biodiversity.

At the Botanic Garden of the University of Turku, the researchers and gardeners work as part of an international network to protect species from extinction, tackle biodiversity loss, and improve environmental sustainability.

By making a donation, you support the Botanic Garden so that we can maintain it as a beautiful and attractive place to visit and provide collection-based research and educational opportunities, organise events and exhibitions as well as continue as a custodian of unique plant collections and an environmental educator.

With your support, the Botanic Garden will be able to teach people of all ages about the importance of plants in our ecosystems.

With your donation:

  • the garden remains a beautiful and attractive place to visit
  • we can offer research and education opportunities and organise events and exhibitions
  • we ensure the care of our unique plant collections
  • we teach people of all ages about the importance of plants in ecosystems

By donating, you are involved in:

  • creating a refuge for endangered plants
  • supporting the Garden’s operations
  • developing the Garden as a living and thriving environment open to everyone
  • enabling us to carry out our missions in research and education
