Wihuri Physical Laboratory at the FINNESS 2026 workshop

Researchers from the Wihuri Physical Laboratory took part in the Finnish Neuromorphic Systems 2026 (FINNESS) workshop, held in Turku on 10–11 June 2026. The two-day event brought together Finnish and European expertise in neuromorphic computing, emerging AI hardware, materials science, physics, electronics, and brain-inspired technologies.

For the Wihuri team, the workshop was especially significant as it also served as the kick-off event for the Business Finland-funded OCEANAut project, coordinated at the laboratory. The project’s presence was visible throughout the event, including through the OCEANAut team T-shirts, which added a strong sense of identity and team spirit.

Professor Petriina Paturi played a central role both as one of the scientific organisers and as a speaker in the programme. Her presentations and contributions to the discussions highlighted research at the University of Turku and the Wihuri Physical Laboratory on memristors, neuromorphic materials, and emerging computing technologies.

During the workshop, lab members joined talks, panel discussions, networking sessions, and informal exchanges with researchers and stakeholders from academia and industry. The event offered a valuable opportunity to showcase ongoing research, strengthen connections, and open new discussions on the future of neuromorphic systems.

Organised by the University of Turku, Åbo Akademi University, and the FINNESS network, the workshop supported interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration in next-generation computing technologies. Warm thanks to all speakers, participants, organisers, and supporters for making the event an active and inspiring meeting point for the neuromorphic systems community.
