Mentors

Abuzer Yakaryilmaz has been a researcher in the Center for Quantum
Computer Science direct by Prof. Andris Ambainis since 2018 and an
assistant professor in Faculty of Computing in University of Latvia
since 2019. He received his PhD under the supervision of Prof. A. C.
Cem Say in Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey in 2011. The title of
his PhD thesis is ”Classical and quantum computation with small space
bounds”. He was a postdoc between 2011 and 2014 in the group of Prof.
Andris Ambainis in Latvia. Then, his project entitled ”The
computational power of restricted quantum and classical models” was
granted by CAPES (Brazil), and then he implemented his project in
National Laboratory for Scientific Computing, Petropolis, Brazil
between 2014 and 2016. After Brazil, he returned back to Latvia and
worked as a visiting researcher between 2016 and 2018.

Dr. Yakaryilmaz has been working mainly on complexity theory and
quantum automata. Since 2018, he has been interested in education and
popularization of quantum technologies. Towards this direction, he has
formulated and led different public and academic educational projects.
He has been jointly developing an introductory material on quantum
computation and quantum programming. This materiel has been used in 21
two-way or three-day long workshops in different countries up to date
[1]. He designed and led the European scale project called Quantum
Drive [2], during which he and his team visited eight countries and
organized 11 workshops in these countries jointly with the local
hosts. He is the coordinator of academic project called Quantum
Semester [3], which will be implemented in Spring 2020 in University
of Latvia by offering practical and theoretical courses on quantum
computation and software. Quantum Cousins and Quantum Kitchen are two
other projects by Dr. Yakaryilmaz. More information can be found on
