Painotuotteena vihkosta on jaossa Turun kaupungin pääkirjastossa.

Pikku hiljaa jopa kiukkuisimman lapsen silmät alkoivat loistaa. Miten jänniä juttuja lukuilo kertoi, miten hassuja kuvia hän näytti! Lukuilo kieputti lapsia satujen tähtisateessa ja lennätti heidät yhä uusiin tarinoihin.”

A Hop to Stories material is now officially being distributed. The material can be freely downloaded from our website. In addition, it can be found in an electronic version on the City of Turku website. The printed booklet will be distributed in the Turku City Main Library. In addition, the book is distributed in baby clinics and early childhood education centers.

During  the online webinar 28.9.2020, other IKI-TARU methods were also presented. Bedtime story bookshelf and kamishibai theaters are examples of how ways to increase reading and get engaged in stories are often simple. In addition, new children’s books were presented at the event. The main theme of the event was the importance of storytelling and narratives for children and families. Children’s books and moments of sharing or reading with children are also important for adults.

The smaller the children are, the easier it is to become engaged in reading and stories. Engagement to reading is influenced by many factors: literacy skills, perceptions related to reading, and a community that inspires reading. For children, the first reading community is their own family or early childhood education group. The Jump to Stories material includes ways to engage with both communities. Families are different and therefore the means also vary. The material contains ideas on five different themes, one of which we hope is suitable for different families.

At the end of the Hop into stories -material there is a story of the Joy of Reading. This character decides to change the world through stories. We hope that with this material all of us are getting familiar with the joy of reading:

“Joy of reading turned the pages of its favourite books, whispered little stories, giggled in the children’s ears and got carried away by the tales. Little by little, even the grumpiest child’s eyes began to shine. What exciting stories the Joy of Reading told! What funny pictures it showed! The Joy of Reading took the children on a trip around the world of fairy tales and used its magic.”
