iCANDOC – Doctoral education pilot in precision cancer medicine

The doctoral education pilot in precision cancer medicine coordinated by University of Helsinki is based on the iCAN Digital Precision Cancer Medicine Flagship. The innovative and ambitious pilot aims to improve doctoral education efficiency and labor market relevance in the iCAN flagship area. It is a collaborative effort of 5 universities, HUS Helsinki University Hospital, 4 wellbeing services counties and industry together with third sector partners. In the pilot, 152 PhDs will be trained in Finland over the next few years.

One goal of the pilot is that the dissertation can be submitted for pre-examination within three years of starting doctoral education. A doctoral degree provides the skills to work as an independent researcher or in demanding expert work in the academic or other working life sector.

A total of ten doctoral researchers will be recruited in the University of Turku. The application period for three-year pilot doctoral researcher positions 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2027 opens in early autumn 2024.
