Seminar: Pauliina Peltonen: “L1 and L2 fluency in monologue and dialogue speech: Insights from the FDF2 project”
In the Department of English Research Seminar next Thursday (28 September), Dr. Pauliina Peltonen will speak about “L1 and L2 fluency in monologue and dialogue speech: Insights from the FDF2 project”. The seminar will meet in Arcanum, roomB232, at 14:15-15:00.
This is how Pauliina describes her talk:
“In this presentation, I will discuss my work package in the Research Council of Finland funded project “Fluency and Disfluency Features in L2 Speech” (FDF2, 2020–2024; project PI Pekka Lintunen). My work package focuses on speech fluency from a second language acquisition perspective, and the main focus is on examining the effects of first language (L1) speaking style and task mode (monologue vs. dialogue) on second language (L2) speech. In addition to the main study, I will briefly discuss the other substudies related to my work package, including a mixed-methods study on L2 repair behavior, the teaching of L2 fluency, word searches in L1 and L2 interaction, and the connections between gesture and (dis)fluency.”
