Charles A. Young: Manual of astronomy
Boston: Ginn & company, 1902.

Charles Augustus Young (1834-1908) was an American astronomer. He was a professor of mathematics, natural philosophy and astronomy. Young is considered a pioneer, particularly in various areas of astrophysics. He is credited with taking the first photograph of the Sun’s prominence. Prominences are bursts of gas rising from the Sun. They can reach heights of tens of thousands of kilometers.

The Manual of Astronomy was first published in 1902. It became very popular and several reprints were made. It covers a wide range of astronomical topics such as celestial mechanics, the solar system and the structure of the universe.
