The Swedish royals interest people a great deal in the Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnia. So, it was no surprise that thousands of people had gathered in the centre of Vasa as Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Vasa 13.-14.9.2006. At the same time the visit by the royals culminated the 400-year Anniversary celebrations of the city. The previous visit of Swedish royals in Vasa was in 1802 when Gustav IV Adolf and Queen Fredrika visited the city.

During the two-day visit Carl XVI Gustaf and Silvia visited, among others, the Ostrobothnian Museum and the Vasa Court of Appeal, founded by Gustav III. The President Tarja Halonen and Pertti Arajärvi also took part of the visit and together they enjoyed dinner at the town hall of Vasa.

In Kungaboken you can follow the visit by the photos and there are also interesting historical reviews. After all the founder of Vasa was Charles IX of Sweden and Vasa was originally a Swedish city.
