Robert Stawell Ball: An atlas of astronomy

Robert Stawell Ball (1840-1913) was an Irish astronomer. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin where he also appointed professor of astronomy and Royal Astronomer. Ball was a diligent lecturer and helped to popularize science. His lectures were very popular and it is estimated that he gave around 2500 lectures in total lecturing in the UK and in Ireland. Ball’s work on astronomy, An Atlas of Astronomy, was published in 1892. The asteroid ‘4809 Robertball’ is named after him.
