Johannes Gabriel (Kaapo) Granö (1882 –1956)) was a Finnish geographer, who developed landscape geography and geography methodology in particular. Granö was as Rector of the University of Turku (1932–1934) and Chancellor (1945–1955). In addition, he made a significant contribution to the establishment of geography institutes at the Universities of Tartu and Turku.
Granö made many expeditions to Mongolia and the Altai Mountains. He published travel book Altai (1919–1921), which appeared in two parts. Altai received a great reception when it came out. However, interest gradually faded until it was found again and a reprint was taken in 1993. Especially the photographs Granö took during his travels have attracted a lot of attention again in the 21st century.
