Der Kilima-Ndjaro
Der Kilima-Ndjaro – forschungsreise im östlichen Aequatorial-Afrika
H.H. Johnston
F. A. Brockhaus, 1886
The Kilima-Njaro Expedition: a record of scientific exploration in Eastern Equatorial Africa and a general description of the natural history, languages and commerce of the Kilima-Njaro district.
The first Europeans who found Mount Kilimanjaro were reportedly missionaries Johann Ludvig Kraft and Johannes Rebmann in the 1840s. Shortly thereafter, the highest place in Africa became the destination of numerous expeditions. All types of earth’s climate can be encountered around Kilimanjaro, so no doubt it has been a tremendous experience to hike from the heat of the savannah to the dazzling icy roof of Africa.
The book, written by Englishman Harry Hamilton Johnston, tells the story of his expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro in 1884. The study contains extensive observations of fauna, flora and geography of the area. The research also contains numerous ethnographic, linguistic, trade-related notes, maps and drawings made by the explorer himself. It was originally published in English in 1886 and in German the same year.
