S/S Ilmatar was a passenger steamship owned by Suomen Höyrylaiva Osakeyhtiö (Finska Ångfartygs Aktiebolaget, FÅA). The ship was built in Copenhagen on the dock of A/S Burmeister & Wain’s Maskin og Skibsbyggerin in 1929. Until the year 1931 the Ilmatar sailed a winter route Helsinki – Tallinn – Stettin and in summer season a route Helsinki – Lübeck. After 1931, she sailed on the line Helsinki – Copenhagen – Hull. The length of the Ilmatar was 86 metres, the displacement 2400 tons, the top speed 14,5 knots and there were 90 first class and 60 tourist class cabins.
